moreTandava, the mystical dance of Shiva is the spontaneous, slow and fluid deployee of body movements in the space, generated by the conscious breath. The body indulges in spontaneity through the subtile exploration of the physical sensations of both the contracted areas and the soft ones.
In this way the body is naturally more receptive and it is ready to be opened to sensoriality. Curiosity, deep listening of the sensations and the availability to let the body moving accordingly to its potentials are the main attitudes to handle with this formal practise of the Kashmir Yoga.
The purpose of Tandava is to open the body-mind system, melting the body in a deep relaxation, making it permeable to emotions. So the emotions can freely flow without being stuck and repeated over and over. Besides, the deep listening could bring to the extintion of the sensation and to the fusion with the space, loosing the border of body which can become the entire universe.
The word Tandava, the dance of Shiva, in sanscrit, comes from different roots and has two meanings which recap very well the potentials of this practice:
"O Goddess, enjoy the extremely slow movements of your body, of a mount, of a vehicle and, with peace in mind, sink into divine spirit."
( Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, sloka 83 )
